General Information



Requirements Checklist


To apply for German citizenship, you typically need:


  • 8 years of legal residence (can be reduced to 6-7 with integration course)
  • Permanent residence permit or EU Blue Card
  • German language skills (B1 level)
  • Pass the Einbürgerungstest (or German school diploma)
  • Financial self-sufficiency
  • No criminal record
  • Give up previous citizenship (with exceptions)
